Services for families and children that focus on supporting parents and assisting children in becoming healthy, productive adults. Children’s Bureau offers a variety of resource centers located various locations, serving low-income families. Family resource centers are small centers that work with specific communities in their designated area. The Oakwood Family Resource Center serves communities in Koreatown and East Hollywood area serving many low-income families living in the community. Oakwood Family Resource Center offers these services within three different departments: Prevention Department: School Readiness Services o Community Association Saturday events that take place every Saturday (unless otherwise noted)at 10am designed to enrich family and children’s family time with activities in which both parents and children can engage. New families are welcomed and can register on site. o Center Based Family Enrichment Programs (0-3) A program for parents and children from 0-3years of age designed to enhance relationships between parent and child by strengthening parenting skills. o Community Enrichment Classes Classes for parent leaders who engage in neighborhood activities. o NuParent Classes Internationally recognized program that teaches child-rearing skills, bonding techniques and offers a support forum for parents of infants, toddlers and preschoolers. This program is dedicated to educating parents from last trimester of pregnancy to 5 years of age. The topics include: bonding, communication, infant massage, child development, routines, guidance and discipline. o Aftercare and Prevention Linkage and Referrals made for client’s concerns. Family Source o Parenting Classes Educating parents on child development, discipline, health and safety strategies to reduce stress and improve communication between parents and children. o Case Management Provide families with resources and assistance. Provides assistance in obtaining benefits, emergency food/utilities, employment preparedness and referrals to needed services. Provides emotional and parenting support. o Adult Therapy Children’s Bureau provides referral services for parents who are in need of therapy services.
