Qi Hai Acupuncture and Massage provides holistic health care in Kapolei, Hawaii. Welcome to Qi Hai Acupuncture and Massage in Kapolei and Makaha. My name is Mei Yan Lau and am excited to share my story of acupuncture and massage therapy with you. My journey began in 2004 after a car accident. I was the front seat passenger of a vehicle that took an on ramp too fast on wet road and we hit the rail. Read more I saw myself flying towards the steering wheel but yanked back as quickly by my seat belt. The seat belt absolutely did it's job and we walked away without a scratch. I slept one peaceful night but awoken by progressive shooting pain in my neck , shoulders and back. My doctor informed me it was whiplash and prescribed some pain killers and sent me on my way. With painful days and sleepless nights, pain killers numbed my body and fogged my head but did not heal me. It was only after the discovery of massage therapy that I was able to live my life again. My first massage therapy was of a softer touch. She released a lot of my anxiety and put me to sleep every time I was on her table. However, I felt the same amount of pain when I left. And as the stars aligned in my life, I met my better half and he introduced me to his father, a licensed massage therapist in Makaha, Hawaii, Lanny Moore. His style is Sports and Deep Tissue and I felt great just after the initial visit. By my second visit, I was sleeping through the night without being in the fetal position. By the fourth visit, I was pain free. From that moment on, I decided on the path of helping others who are going through what I went through. I started the next available class at Hawaii Massage Academy and became a Licensed Massage Therapist in 2006. For the next few years, I provided out call massages in Makaha to office workers with desk job pains, very similar pain patterns as what I experienced- Neck, Shoulders and Back. My idea was massage should be easily accessible to everyone and not be viewed as a luxury. From there, I envisioned something bigger than just out calls and I remembered the time when my grandma would see an acupuncturist for her arthritis pain in her foot. There is so much more learning in helping others. And massage therapy became my gateway to the world of holistic medicine.
